Overview
Bacteriostatic Water for Injection (BWFI) is sterile, nonpyrogenic water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. This specialized diluent is the gold standard for reconstituting lyophilized peptides and other injectable research compounds, enabling multi-dose use from a single vial.
**COMPOSITION:** - Water for Injection USP: 99.1% - Benzyl Alcohol NF: 0.9% (9mg/mL) - pH: 4.5-7.0
**BACTERIOSTATIC MECHANISM:** Benzyl alcohol exerts antimicrobial activity through disruption of bacterial cell membrane integrity. At 0.9% concentration, it effectively inhibits growth of most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and some fungi, maintaining solution sterility after initial puncture for up to 28 days under proper storage conditions.
